The “Wine Road” Project is financed in the framework of the Romania-Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Project 2007-2013, Priority Axis no.3 "Social and Economic Development", Scope of intervention 3.1. "Supporting the co-operation of the business environment in the cross-border area and promote the image and regional identity".The implementation period April 2011 – November 2012
General objective: sustainable economic development of the Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti, Belogradchik, Montana, Pleven region, by identifying and promoting opportunities in viticulture and related services.
Specific objective 1: Identifying and promoting opportunities in viticulture and related services in the cross-border area of Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti, Belogradchik, Montana, Pleven, through specific measures and means.
Specific objective 2: Planning a pilot project in the field of viticulture in order to become an example of good practice for the development of the wine-growing industry in the Roman-Bulgarian cross-border region.
The target group considered for the project activities:
- SMEs and private producers of wine and vine in the cross-border area
- SMEs of adjacent services of the vine industry in the cross-border region
- Local and Regional Authorities in the cross-border area
- The population of the counties of Dolj, Olt, Mehedinti in Romania, and the districts of Vidin, Montana, Pleven from Bulgaria
Implementation of the project aims:
- To stimulate cooperation in research and business, through common virtual and physical infrastructure.
- Romanian and Bulgarian businessmen and entrepreneurs would have access to services and consultancy for vine and wine industry.
- To produce effects in the wine-growing potential of the Bulgarian-Romanian border area
- Scientific management of the potential of the vineyard culture.
- Through joint activities (seminars, workshops, conferences, economic missions, exhibitions), to facilitate the development of relations of cooperation between the SMEs of the region.
- To contribute through cooperation to increasing competitiveness of the region and creating regional culture wine brands.
